Larnaca district court on Thursday ordered a 32-year-old man remanded in custody for eight days as police investigate a bank robbery committed in Kiti on Wednesday.

A police spokesman told the Cyprus News Agency that at around 11.15am on Wednesday, a person wearing a medical mask entered a bank branch in Kiti and snatched money from the cash register.

He said that on being seen by the employee and clients, he brandished an object to stop them from chasing him and managed to get away. It was not immediately clear what the suspect had in his hand.

According to the spokesman, police went to the bank branch where investigations led to evidence against the 32-year-old who was tracked down in the Dromolaxia area at 13.00 and stopped.

In his possession, police found cash which was confiscated for tests while evidence was collected from his home. He was arrested, appeared in court on Thursday and remanded in custody.
