Coronavirus: No deaths but 2,207 new cases in past week

There were no Covid deaths recorded during the past week, according to the health ministry’s weekly report, released on Friday, while 2,207 tests out of a total of 58,585 came back positive.

The ministry said a 52-year-old man who died on March 23, 2021, has now had their death attributed to Covid, but provided no further details on the person’s case.

As such, there have now been 1,068 Covid deaths in the Republic, according to the ministry.

The weekly report further stated that 31 Covid patients are receiving treatment at state institutions.

Four of the patients are in serious condition at ICU units, two of whom are intubated.

As for this week’s Covid tests, the ministry said the positivity rate came to 3.77 per cent.

PCR tests yielded the highest rate at 5.96 per cent, following 3,590 tests of which 214 returned positive.

Rapid tests returned a positivity rate of 3.62 per cent, as 54,995 tests were carried out with 1,993 identifying a positive result.

Contact tracing tests had a whopping 66.67 per cent positivity rate, although only three such tests were carried out.

None of the 3,620 tests carried out at care homes returned positive.
