Beachgoers who headed out of the city for the holiday weekend should expect cloudy weather and isolated showers at least on the south-eastern end of the island on Sunday, the met office said.

It will also be cloudy and prone to showers inland and in the mountains in the afternoon.

Temperatures will be around 30C inland, around 27C on the west and north coasts, 28C on the south and east coasts and 19C in the higher mountains.

There will be increased cloud cover during the night with temperatures falling to 18C inland, 23C on the west coast and 20C along the south and south-eastern coastline, and 11C in the mountains.

On Monday it will initially be mostly clear but with increased cloud cover in the west and north accompanied by isolated showers in the mountains, inland and on the south-east coast.

Similar weather patterns will continue through to Tuesday with temperatures a little below the seasonal average.
