Roald Dahl’s Matilda coming to Nicosia

matilda970

The charming and magical tale of Matilda, a young girl who loves books, is coming to Nicosia this week presented by the Cyprus Performing Arts. On for only two shows on Sunday, the adaptation of the all-time favourite musical welcomes the whole family and includes one unique element to be inclusive to all.

With impressive sets, extraordinary costumes from scratch, original choreographies, brilliant staging and industry professionals performing together with the talented and highly trained Cyprus Performing Arts Children, audiences will be in for a spectacular show in English with many surprises, filled with music, laughter, theatre and loads of dance.

“This year our Matilda will be special, innovative and one-of-a-kind,” say organisers, “since we are more than happy to have a sign language interpreter on stage, Panayiota Themistokleous.” The show is an adaptation of the musical based on Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book of the same name.

Matilda Wormwood is a bright little girl who immerses herself in books and is constantly discarded and belittled by her dim-witted parents and her hostile headmistress, the outrageous and wicked Miss Trunchbull. Reclusive, but with an ever-growing imagination and sharp mind, and with a caring protector in her teacher Miss Honey, Matilda dreams of a better life, daring to take a stand against unjust forces and to grasp her destiny in her own, tiny hands.

Creative musical director and choreographer Sarah Milne, production manager Sarah Patsalidou, dozens of performing children on stage and the backstage crew await young and old audiences to bring Matilda’s magic to the Nicosia Municipal Theatre.
