2 (1)

The sounds of world and Latin music can be enjoyed at the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation on Thursday. As part of the ongoing Faneromeni22 arts festival, exuberating local band Macumba will perform a lively concert sure to get music lovers on their feet.

Born in Cyprus in 2017, the band moves toward Latin Jazz and World music directions and paths. The collaboration between Elias Ioannou, Giorgos Morfitis, Rodrigo Caceres and Rodos Panayiotou brings a new air to the music scene of the island with almost all of their performance being sold-out shows.

Afro-Cuban and Brazilian rhythms and colours get blended through a modern jazz aesthetic and the result is recorded on their album Como Jugando, which was released in 2019. This Thursday, Macumba is bringing its vibrant music to old Nicosia for a free, 70-minute-long performance.

Besides playing at numerous venues and events nationwide such as at Windcraft Festival, Rialto World Music Festival and Aglanjazz Festival, the band has presented its frenzy dance jazz music in various festivals and concert grounds with great success abroad as well. Some of their highlight performances included Unesco’s Gardens of Sound Music Festival in Poland and ATJF Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival yet this week they return local to entertain the capital.
