Police probe palm tree injury

Τραυματισμός Τουρίστριας μετά από πτώση δέντρου

Police on Thursday were investigating the circumstances that led to the injury of a 69-year-old French tourist after a palm tree fell on her the previous day.

In an announcement, police said they were looking at whether the appropriate safety measures were taken.

The woman is currently being treated at Famagusta general hospital and is out of danger.

According to the police report, the woman and her husband were walking in Paralimni around 3pm on Wednesday when the palm tree fell on her in the yard of a restaurant.

Members of the Famagusta fire service and Paralimni police officers rushed to the scene to free the woman, who was then taken to Famagusta general hospital.

There, it was determined she had suffered fractures in her spine, ribs, and leg.

The report said that the investigation so far showed that the tree had been cut with an electric tree trimmer during gardening work that was being carried out at the scene of the accident.

It concluded that Paralimni police are investigating the circumstances under which the accident took place, and whether the appropriate safety measures were taken in the restaurant area during the gardening works.
