Police warn of email scams from top officials

scamphoto

Police issued a warning on Monday regarding two email scams making the rounds, one purporting to have been send from the chief of police Stylianos Papatheodorou and the other from the ex-chief of police, Michalakis Papageorgiou.

In both emails, the scammers require the recipient to respond back in acknowledgement of the message received.

It is thought that the purpose is to verify that the addresses to which the messages are being sent to are active.

Police inform that in no circumstance do they send such emails to the public or other organisations. In case of receipt, members of the public should alert the police and avoid any communication or transaction via the suspect addresses.

The email addresses in question are [email protected] and [email protected]
