Weather alert for 41C on Sunday, fire threat ‘red’

A yellow alert for high temperatures will be in force from 11am to 5pm on Sunday.

Temperatures are expected to go as high as 41C inland, 31C along the west coast, 34C on the south and east coasts, and will reach 33C in the mountains.

The temperature will drop to around 22C inland and in the higher mountains at night, and around 24C on the coast.

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the temperature is not expected to change appreciably, remaining above average climatic values.

Meanwhile, the forestry department issued a red alert for fires due to the scorching weather.

People are asked to report it if they notice smoke or fire by calling 1407 for the forestry department or  112 for the fire department.
