Man arrested in connection for boat arson

Paphos police on Friday arrested a 23-year-old man for arson of a boat. The suspect was taken into custody pending investigation.

According to police information, around 2 am on Friday, a fire broke out in a boat owned by a 57-year-old man, which was parked ashore in a field near Emba. Police and fire fighters rushed to the scene. The fire caused extensive damage to the sea vessel.

From examinations carried out it was established that the fire had been set maliciously and evidence emerged against the 23-year-old suspect, who was located and arrested by members with a court warrant, just before 6:30 pm.

The case is under ongoing investigation.
