Sounds of Cuba in Paphos

yemaya son

Rich Cuban sounds performed live are not something we islanders get to enjoy every day yet there is one local band that has a mission to spread them. Yemaya Son – Cuarteto is a Cyprus-based quartet, as their name suggests, that is primarily made up of Latin-American musicians who call this corner of the Mediterranean home.

Since 2017, they have been bringing original Cuban sounds to the live music venues of Cyprus and this September they head to Paphos for a bit of salsa and rumba. Come September 8 and they will transform the intimate garden of Technopolis 20 into a Latin fiesta.

Pedro ‘Son caliente’ Guevara from Cuba is the lead singer of the band and on percussions, Alex Rodriguez from Colombia is on keyboards, Chilean Rodrigo Caceres plays the electric bass and adds to the vocals, while the only Cypriot of the quartet is Andreas Stefanou on drums, percussions and vocals. Together they interpret a blend of salsa, son, bachata, timba, merengue, rumba and Afro-Cuban rhythms which is what they aim to bring to the concert at Technopolis 20.
