Museum events walk in the footsteps of Ioannis Kissonerghis

The Leventis Municipal Museum in old Nicosia currently hosts the temporary exhibition Chora – Ioannis Kissonerghis and in parallel has organised several activities to unveil Nicosia through the artistic gaze of the painter. Coming up first are two guided tours of the exhibition in Greek on September 15 and 24.

The first will take place between 6.30pm and 7.30pm and will be led by exhibition curator Maria Patsalosavvi. The second will be a morning session at 11am with the assistant curator of the exhibition Chrysostomos Sakallis.

In between the two, a creative workshop for children will take place on September 17 titled Little Painters in the Town Square. During the morning workshop, young ones will embark on a walk in the old town and inspired by Kissonerghis’ paintings and depictions of Nicosia, they will try to imagine how he would paint the city if he lived today. With paintbrushes and watercolours in hand, children will paint Eleftheria Square, where the workshop will take place.

Towards the end of the month, one more activity will take place – this one addressed mainly to adults. The Urban Walkers-In the footsteps of Kissonerghis event will take participants on a guided walk in the old city, inspired by Kissonerghis’ depictions of the alleys of walled Nicosia. As such, on September 27 the urban walkers will become observers of the capital, as well as contemporary artists creating their own image of Nicosia. Following the afternoon walk which will begin from the Museum at 6.30pm, the activity will conclude with a creative workshop at the Creativity Centre of the Museum.
