Police arrest two men in connection with Famagusta boat migrant case

Two men aged 23 and 20 were arrested on Monday to facilitate police investigations into an ongoing case of assisting third-country nationals in illegally entering Cyprus by sea on Thursday, September 1.

In statement, the police said that the two suspects were arrested on Monday afternoon by Famagusta police, based on judicial arrest warrants, following evidence that emerged during the investigation of the case.

In the same case, a 39-year-old man, who is in custody under a court order, was arrested last Thursday.

Some 49 migrants arrived on Thursday night off Cape Greco, in the sea area of Famagusta, of which 27 men, 5 women and 17 minors, five of whom were unaccompanied.
