Fire at a building in Limassol under control

A fire that broke out on Tuesday night on the ground-floor of a residence in Limassol caused damage to a room. There were no injuries as the occupants managed to get out on time.

According to the fire department, the blaze broke out shortly after 8pm. Two fire engines were sent to the scene from Ayios Ioannis station. Police also went.

The fire was brought under control around 9pm, police said. One room had been extensively damaged but fumes from the paint and smoke had permeated the entire house.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire service said that between 6am on Tuesday and 6am on Wednesday, it had responded to 39 calls for help – 21 fires, 14 for other services, and four hoax calls.
