Driver crashes into police car going at 164km/h, tests positive to narcotest

A 25-year-old driver crashed into a police vehicle on the Limassol – Nicosia highway after ignoring calls to pull over when he was caught speeding at 164km/h, police said on Thursday.

The man was arrested on Wednesday evening when officers patrolling the highway close to Zigi saw the man speeding. Police called on him to pull over multiple times but he kept driving “recklessly and dangerously.”

He then crashed into a police car close to the Chirokitia exit. Officers found he had no driving licence or insurance. He tested negative for an alcotest but positive for a narcotest, and police also found cannabis in his car.

Officers also found he had been living illegally in Cyprus since June and was arrested on the spot.
