Island-wide live music coming up

miaris trio

Following a Christmas season high and a short hiatus, the musicians and live music venues of the island return to the stage with new performances, shows and recitals. In the coming weeks, duos, trios and bands will present new bodies of work on numerous stages around the country, offering a little bit of everything to satisfy all tastes.

Paphos’ live music scene is often kept alive thanks to the packed agenda of Technopolis 20 and this month the cultural centre continues bringing together art lovers and professionals. On Wednesday 18, the Miaris trio will take over its cozy space to perform its jazz style of bebop. Through bebop tunes and bebop melodies over jazz standards, Dimitris Miaris on piano, Costas Challoumas on double bass and Marios Spyrou on drums chase the freedom of expression with both virtuosity and feeling, bringing their signature jazz sound to listeners.

Just two days later, Larnaca music lovers will be able to catch two local bands live as they take the stage of Savino Live. Nabuma and Alexis Sunder will perform a show on Friday 20. Alternative R&B four-piece band Nabuma was formed in 2018, composing original soulful grooves. The band is made up of vocalist Nicole Ardanitou, bassist Andreas Matheou, guitarist Alexis Kasinos, and drummer Kris Grecian. Their inspiration and distinctive style emanate from jazz, neo-soul, R&B to alternative music, combined together. They have been performing their original music in various music venues and music festivals around Cyprus for the past few years and currently, they are working on their debut EP and focusing only on new material.

Alexis Sunder and his live band will return to Savino on the same night bringing head-bobbing grooves, sunny melodies and an energetic set that blends funk, soul and pop-rock that offers modern impressions on strong retro vibes. On stage Sunder will be supported by his steady collaborators of Frankiskos Petrides on drums, Andreas Papageorgiou on bass and Andreas Epaminonda on lead guitar.

The following week in Paphos will commence with an afternoon, acoustic show in Peyia. The Brewery Bar will welcome back the award-winning duo New Rules on Monday 23 for a 3pm live performance playing beloved hits and covers to start the week with a little bit of groove.
