Upcoming cultural performances in Paphos

choir

In Paphos, Technopolis 20 continues to offer entertainment and bring together artists and culture lovers. In the upcoming weeks, it will host a plethora of events, from dance performances to choirs, quartets and duos performing live.

Arriving first will be a concert by the new choir Oh Lala from Paphos. On May 10, the choir will present a programme that will include beloved songs from old Russian films. The choir has existed for only one year, under the direction of mezzo-soprano Anastasia Maksimova, but it has already established itself as a high-quality and purposeful team and has taken part in many events and concerts in Paphos.

Two days later, on May 12, the Finnish jazz saxophonist and composer Pekka Pylkkänen will bring his quartet to Technopolis 20 with a programme of original works. Recognised as one of the major saxophone voices in contemporary European jazz, Pekka Pylkkänen will perform for the first time in Cyprus, showcasing some of the best of his own compositions. Accompanying him will three stellar local musicians – Ireneaos Koullouras on bass, Christos Yerolatsitis on piano and Stelios Xidias on drums.

A dance performance will take place next at the Paphos venue. Inspired by a powerful motivational speech, four female dancers will perform a contemporary dance piece titled I Stand Here on May 17 at 6pm. Room of Hope, a Nicosia-based charity that supports survivors of Human Trafficking collaborated with Kineses Dance Project to create this platform. The performance is free to attend but the event will have a donations box.

The Back to Bach recital will take place on May 22, welcoming back pianist Anita Tomasevich and violinist Olivera Rialas. From 8pm onwards, the musicians will perform an interesting programme by JS Bach.
