Attempt to smuggle drugs to prisoner in a pancake

Police on Sunday said it was investigating a second attempt in a span of a few days to smuggle drugs to a prisoner held in Paphos.

A 36-year-old man who works as a mechanic asked to see a man detained at Paphos police headquarters, aged 39, to give him food and clothing.

After the items were inspected, officers found a transparent, sealed off plastic straw, hidden inside a pancake, which contained a crystal-like substance weighing 0.3 grammes which appeared to be methamphetamine.

The 36-year-old was arrested and while being questioned, claimed a woman called ‘Maria’ gave him the food and clothes, asking him to pass it on to the 39-year-old detained man. He claims he does not know the woman.

A few days ago, someone else attempted to give the 39-year-old methamphetamine in a shampoo bottle, which was also found by police.

Investigations continue.
