President Nikos Christodoulides congratulated President Tayyip Erdogan for his re-election victory on Monday, expressing his hope that talks for the Cyprus problem could pick up where they left off in Crans-Montana.

“I believe a significant milestone has been accomplished with Mr Erdogan’s re-election. I want to use this opportunity to congratulate him and express yet again, our readiness to resume talks.”

Following the conclusion of Turkey’s elections, Cyprus’ efforts will now move to the next stage, as this has been a milestone “and we soon hope for developments.”

With 52 per cent of the vote, Erdogan has secured himself another five years in term. Voters in the north overwhelmingly backed opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu with 58.1 per cent of the votes.
