A “high-ranking” UN official is expected to arrive in Cyprus in early November, towards the end of the coming week, according to local media.

The comments carried by the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) come soon after President Nikos Christodoulides met with UNSG Antonio Guterres in Egypt when it was said that the UN chief is ready to appoint a representative to explore the prospects for restarting negotiations.

It is understood that the “high-ranking” official was initially set to visit in October but this was rescheduled.

CNA further reported that more details are to be announced in the coming days once the schedule is finalised.

The UN official is expected to meet with the president and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar.
