Paphos will have an art-filled weekend with an upcoming event diving into the practices and methodologies of one particular creative. The House of Arts and Letters of Paphos and the Kimonos Art Centre will host a presentation by visual artist Adonis Volanakis this Saturday and invite the public to a talk at the Paphos Municipal Art Gallery. Volanakis will present his artistic practice by delving into his research methods using examples of his artwork from his 20-year international career.
The artist’s work blends social sculpture with anthropological approaches, drawing with archaeological findings, and oral history with photography. He also creates live art installations that touch on the relationship between the human condition and experience. His artistic practice and research also embody elements of poetry and politics, visual and performing arts and female narratives.
He is an Assistant Professor at the University of Patras and has taught in universities and led creative initiatives in Cyprus, France and the USA. The invitation to present his artistic journey and engage with the local art-loving community of Cyprus is part of The Cypriot Aphrodite programme funded by the Department of Modern and Contemporary Culture of the Deputy Ministry of Culture. The talk this Saturday will take place in Greek and begin at 6.30pm.
