Health Minister Michalis Damianos on Tuesday reiterated the government’s commitment to oncological patients in Cyprus and to and further improving healthcare services.

Following a visit to the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre in Nicosia, Damianos assured the health ministry would continue supporting the significant work carried out at the centre, which provides high-level services for Cypriot patients.

Responding to a separate question about the expected arrival in Cyprus of the antiviral drug Paxlovid, a medication used as a treatment for Covid‑19, the minister said that the first batch is set to arrive on Wednesday.

Subsequently, the drugs will be promptly distributed to hospital pharmacies, Damianos added.

Chairman of the Oncology Centre’s board Christos Triantafyllidis thanked the minister for his visit, stressing “the crucial role the centre plays in the healthcare sector and in providing care to Cypriot patients.

“We have heard words of absolute support from the ministry, which particularly satisfies us,” Triantafyllidis said.
