House President Annita Demetriou signed Auditor-General Odysseas Michaelides’ dismissal on Wednesday, after the Supreme Constitutional Court ruled he should be fired for inappropriate conduct.
Demetriou signed as acting President of the Republic as President Nikos Christodoulides is currently abroad.
She was called to the palace to sign his dismissal shortly after the court issued its decision that Michaelides crossed the line in the way he conducted himself and should be fired.
Michaelides charged efforts to have him removed began four years ago by President Nicos Anastasiades and the legal service.
Incumbent President Nikos Christodoulides joined that attempt, Michaelides said.
His statements prompted the government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis to deny the allegations, refuting the government ever tried to get Michaelides fired.
