Listed building facades in the heart of Fikardou village have been restored while maintaining their original character, as part of a landscaping project.
Nicosia’s tourism board said doors and windows had been fully restored, in cooperation with the community council and the antiquities department, as Fikardou itself is listed as an ancient monument and belongs to the department.
Planning began in January 2024 and the works were carried out by experts under the guidance of the antiquities department.
Front doors and wooden shutters are considered to be one of the most important elements of the village, along with cobbled streets and the traditional architecture of the buildings, which won Fikardou the 1987 Europa Nostra award.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway to turn Fikardou into a Christmas village once again, to open on November 23 at 4pm.
