The Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) announced on Friday that the €5 silver collector coin “Rigaina’s castles” has been fully sold out at its counters, reflecting strong demand from collectors and the public.
The bank confirmed that the entire quantity available for sale has been exhausted, bringing an early end to over-the-counter availability during the initial sales phase.
The coin was issued as part of a commemorative initiative marking Cyprus’ presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first half of 2026, combining cultural heritage with European symbolism.
The release formed part of a broader effort to highlight Cyprus’ role during its rotating presidency, with the design drawing on the myth of Rigaina’s castles alongside elements linked to Europe.
The collector coin features the official logo of the Cyprus presidency, depicting a radiant Cypriot sun symbolising life, light, energy, renewal and hope for a shared European future.
The coin was designed by artist George Stamatopoulos and minted at the Bank of Greece printing works department.
The CBC had set a limited mintage of 2,000 coins, each presented in a protective case, contributing to its rapid sell-out.
The selling price was €65 including VAT, according to the central bank.
