Police have arrested the father of a three-year-old boy who died after falling from the fourth floor of a hotel in the Paphos district on Sunday evening.

According to police, the 37-year-old was arrested at 10.15pm on Sunday on suspicion of causing death by a reckless, negligent or dangerous act, neglect of duty as the head of a family, and failing in his responsibility as a person having care of another.

He is expected to appear before the Paphos district court on Monday morning, where police will request that he be remanded in custody to facilitate ongoing investigations.

A post-mortem examination has been scheduled for 12pm on Monday at the Nicosia mortuary and will be carried out by forensic pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou.

The tragedy unfolded at around 6pm on Sunday when the child, who was staying at a hotel in the Paphos district with his parents, fell from the building’s fourth floor under circumstances that remain under investigation.

Police were informed of the incident at 6.40pm, by which time the child had already been taken by ambulance to Paphos general hospital. Despite doctors’ efforts, he was pronounced dead.

The scene remains cordoned off while investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal fall. Police investigations are ongoing.
