Parents protesting the government’s new Covid-19 measures involving primary school pupils blocked the Rizoelia roundabout in Larnaca for around 90 minutes, police said on Saturday.

The parents were protesting the government decision to make protective masks mandatory for primary school children and introduce mass screenings.

The protesters blocked the roundabout for around an hour and a half without major incidents apart from a few shouting matches with angry drivers trying to get home.

Police said traffic was being diverted through the Avdelero-Ayia Napa exit.

A similar protest was taking place in Paphos, outside the district administration, police said.
