Two arrested for transport of irregular migrants

Police arrested two people on Sunday in Famagusta in connection with aiding the transport of illegal immigrants.

According to a police statement, at noon on Sunday a boat carrying 14 irregular migrants arrived in Famagusta.

During inspections testimony emerged against two individuals suspected of assisting the third-country nationals to enter the Republic of Cyprus illegally.

The two people were taken into custody and are expected to be brought before the Famagusta district court on Monday.

The boat’s passengers were taken to the Pournara migrant reception centre in Kokkinotrimithia.
