Music days and nights

Plenty of music nights are happening this month amid the Christmas craze. Several bars in Nicosia and Limassol continue their events schedule with local musicians doing what they do best. From jazz to rock and swing, the island’s music lovers have a lot to choose from.

Welcoming December in a jazzy mood is Vinylio Wine Etc, a bar in the heart of Limassol’s old town, which on Sunday will welcome Vicky Anastasiou and Ermis Michael. Τhe duo, with Vicky on vocals and Ermis on guitar, will perform original arrangements of their favourite songs from various corners of the world using the elements of improvisation and looped melodic and rhythmic patterns.

Also in Limassol, Ravens Music Hall will host Constantinos Lemesios and rock trio Private Garden on December 7 to present their new albums Them and Mr.TV. Talking about their new work, the organisers say: “Lemesios in this new EP Album, tackles and experiments with atmospheric electronic sounds, and synthesizers and wanders between IDM music and the underground, art-pop European electronic scene. The full band, comprising of three top-notch musicians will accompany Lemesios during his performance of Them, and older, loved songs from his previous album.”

In the same week, Sarah’s Jazz Club prepares a jam session on December 8 inviting musicians from Nicosia and the country in general to come play. Hosted by the Workin’ Quartet, the first half of the performance features Charis Ioannou on saxophone, Christos Yerolatsitis on keyboards/piano, Kyriakos Kesta on bass and Marios Spyrou on drums. The second half of the night invites some of Cyprus’ best-known and most talented jazz stars to jam together.

On December 9, pianist Demetris Miaris, bassist Irinaios Koulouras, drummer Marios Spyrou and saxophonist Charis Ioannou will play the very best of swing jazz to commence the weekend.
