Edek is weighing up its options for collaborating with other political parties for the upcoming elections for mayors, vice mayors and regional presidents, its leader said on Sunday.

“We hope that we will soon reach a conclusion through the constructive stance taken by other parties with which we are in talks,” party president Marinos Sizopoulos said.

Speaking during the cutting of the New Year’s cake of Edek Paphos, Sizopoulos said Edek candidates for municipal councillors were drawn up some time ago.

He said these candidates will be able to respond with the greatest possible adequacy to the needs of local government and especially at a time when changing legislation may pose serious risks.

Therefore, he stressed, capable, cooperative people are needed who have a vision to exploit the prospects and possibilities for the benefit of citizens.

On the same day people in Cyprus will also vote for MEPs and Sizopoulos said the party is in the process of evaluating “a long list of candidates”.

He said the final list of six names should be selected by the end of the month.

Cyprus will go to the polls on Sunday, June 9.
