Starting May 1, electronic invoicing will be introduced for business-to-business (B2B) transactions within the municipality of Nicosia, mayor Charalambos Prountzos announced on Friday.
The digital invoicing system will be available to businesses registered with the Bank of Cyprus’ digital economy platform, Jinius, at a registration fee of €40 and a monthly fee of €15.
“We stand ready to support all our partners during this transition period and ensure that our collaboration continues seamlessly and effectively,” Prountzos said, adding that he looked forward to “this new and exciting chapter of the digital era.”
As part of its cooperation with the Bank of Cyprus and in an effort to assist its partners, the municipality announced an exemption from the registration fee until May 31, 2025. Additionally, businesses whose invoices through Jinius do not exceed €2,500 per year (including VAT) will be exempt from the platform’s monthly fee.
Until May, there will be a ‘transitional’ billing period in which both physical and digital billing will be accepted. However, Prountzos urged “all suppliers and partners of the municipality to register on the platform in a timely manner”.
The Jinius service centre told the Cyprus Mail that while the new invoicing system is technically not mandatory, it remains unclear whether businesses that fail to register by May will face penalties or whether the deadline could be extended.
With no clear guidance yet on support measures, questions remain about how businesses unfamiliar with digital platforms will adapt to the transition.
Partners and suppliers of the municipality can register for the new billing system via the following link: https://b2b.jinius.com.cy/register
General support will be provided by the Jinius team via e-mail at [email protected], or by phone at 22-363300, from Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm
