We are blessed with enjoying a Mediterranean diet in Cyprus but how much do we really understand about it? An upcoming workshop on May 18, dives into one of the pillars that makes it so great – olive oil.

The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation, in collaboration with the author and educator Florentia Kythreotou, organises the third and last workshop of this trilogy, dedicated to Cypriot olive oil, one of the most precious products of the Cypriot land. At 11am, Kythreotou will share with participants the history and tradition of Cypriot olive oil, its production and processing, its quality characteristics and categories as well as the basic principles of organoleptic evaluation.

She is a writer and wine and gastronomy educator with a wealth of writing and extensive experience in the fields of food, culture and education who will now share her knowledge with the Cypriot public one more time. The Sunday programme includes a history of Cypriot olive oil production plus an introduction to olive oil tasting as well as a guided tasting of selected Cypriot olive oils.

Taking place for free, the workshop will be conducted in Greek yet there is an option to offer simultaneous translation to English if needed. Spots are limited though, so if you are interested in learning why Cyprus is an “olive oil blessed island”, better reserve a place soon.
