Cyprus has expressed its support for Ukraine on the occasion of the country’s 35th anniversary of independence.

In a post on X, the foreign ministry congratulated its Ukrainian counterpart and the people of Ukraine on their Independence Day, stating “Cyprus stands by Ukraine”.

In June, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha thanked Cyprus for its “leadership in advancing Ukraine’s EU accession process” during the island’s EU council presidency.

In April, Finance Minister Makis Keravnos said Cyprus had “worked tirelessly” to secure the release of €90 billion in EU loans for Ukraine, describing the funds as “vital support for Ukraine’s most pressing budgetary needs”.

President Nikos Christodoulides also reaffirmed Cyprus’ “unwavering support” for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity during a February teleconference of the coalition of the willing, with Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos separately telling the EU foreign affairs council that Cyprus, as a country living under occupation, stands firmly by Ukraine.
