Temperatures will hit 40C plus again tomorrow, prompting the met office to issue yet another extreme high temperature warning, although the heat wave is forecast to ease slightly on Saturday and Sunday.

In a yellow alert issued on Thursday, the met office said that maximum temperatures on Friday are expected to be around 41C inland and 32C over Troodos’ highest peaks.

The alert is in force from 12 noon to 4.00 pm.

Seasonal low pressure and a hot air mass in the area have led to sizzling temperatures all week.

Friday is forecast to be fine and hot, with temperatures rising to 41C inland, 36C on the southeast, east, and north coasts, 34C on the remaining coasts and 32C in the mountains.

Saturday, Sunday, and Monday will be fine with temperatures edging down on Saturday and Sunday but remaining above the seasonal average.

Maximum temperatures at 3.00 pm on Thursday were Nicosia 40C, Larnaca Airport 37C, Limassol 35C, Paphos Airport 32C, Frenaros38C, Prodromos 32C and Polis Chrysochous 38C. Humidity ranged from 15 per cent in Nicosia to 72 per cent at Paphos Airport.
