Fans who will ago to the Nicosian derby match between Apoel and Omonia on Boxing Day have been asked to bring a teddy bear with them to be given to children in need.

Inspired by similar actions abroad, whereby fans throw into the pitch teddy bears to be given to children in need, football fan George Kampouris pitched in the idea of doing the same at the Apoel vs Omonia match on Boxing Day.

“It is an initiative that I have been thinking about for days and why should it not take place in Cyprus as well?” Kampouris said in a statement.

His idea, he added, was to do this at the upcoming match between the two Nicosia football clubs. The match was interrupted earlier in the month due to dense fog and was rescheduled for Boxing Day.

“Many football clubs abroad, have established this and every year, small toys are collected in this magical way, and given to children who do not have the same luck as us,” Kampouris said. Each teddy bear that will be collected will be donated to charity organisations to make sure that no child will be left without any gift this holiday season.

Kampouris called on organisations to embrace this initiative and contact him with ideas about where the teddy bears will be donated.
