New police sweep in Chlorakas, six arrested

Six people were arrested for settling in Chlorakas in violation of an interior ministry’s decree, police said on Wednesday.

The arrests occurred following a police sweep in a specific apartment complex of the Paphos village, carried out between 5pm and midnight on Tuesday.

Police said the suspects were charged and then released pending a court appearance.

The search aimed to check for violations of the decree banning the settlement of additional migrants in the community, police said.

During the sweep, officers also stopped for a check 50 vehicles, 35 of which were searched.

Police also searched 70 people and issued 14 fines for traffic violations.

A number of police operations have taken place in Chlorakas over the past two weeks following a brawl involving dozens of people.

Residents of the area have also staged two demonstrations over the random violence in the village.
