Nineteen-year-old dies in fatal collision

Police are investigating the circumstances of a fatal traffic accident on Sunday night in Limassol which led to the death of 19-year-old Sotiris Toumazou from Kolossi,

A 16-year-old passenger, also in the same vehicle, is being held as a precautionary measure at Limassol general hospital.

The fatal accident occurred shortly after 9pm Sunday on the Paphos-Limassol highway near Ypsonas where, under conditions being investigated, the car driven by the 19-year-old deviated and after hitting the safety rail, overturned.

The 19-year-old and the 16-year-old front seat passenger were taken by ambulance to the Limassol general hospital, where doctors confirmed the death of the 19-year-old. The 16-year-old received treatment for injuries she suffered and was kept at the hospital for follow-up.

Limassol police are continuing investigations and are appealing to anyone who knows anything about the circumstances under which the accident occurred, to contact the Limassol traffic police, on 25 805252, or the citizen’s line on telephone 1460.
