A 40-year-old man was remanded in custody for three days on Wednesday after being linked to three fires which broke out on Tuesday in Limassol.

Two of the fires were in Alassa village and one in the industrial area of Ayios Sylas.

After testimony was given to police on Tuesday against the suspect, he was questioned and admitted to starting the fires.

Police searched his car where three lighters were found, which he said he had used to start the fires by setting fire to grass.

The suspect has been examined by a psychiatrist.

The first fire was started at 7.36am and the second at 7.52am, both in Alassa village, and the third at 9.14am which was in the industrial area of Ypsonas (Ayios Sylas).

Investigations continue to see if he was also behind other fires in the Limassol district.
