A swimmer was hospitalised in critical condition on Friday, after he was found unconscious in the sea near the area of Enaerios pier in Limassol the previous day.

Police said they received information about an unconscious person in the sea around 3.40pm on Thursday.

The man was recovered by lifeguards who provided first aid.

He was then transported via ambulance to the Limassol general hospital where he was intubated in critical condition. He remains treated under sedation in the intensive care unit.

Police said the man is a third-country national who has not yet been identified since he was only wearing a swimsuit and no other personal belongings have been located in the area.

So far, there is no suspicion of foul play while investigations continue.
