ExxonMobil/ESSO renews commitment to road safety

ESSO/Mobil safety campaign

At a conference held on December 22, 2022, at Nicosia’s Traffic Education Park, ESSO’s new Corporate Social Responsibility programme was unveiled, with the central message ‘Never Drink’. The event also saw ExxonMobil deliver high-quality children’s seats, to be used at police road-safety lectures and workshops.

ExxonMobil Cyprus Managing Director Varnavas Theodossiou, made reference to the emphasis on road safety placed by the company, both in terms of developing a safe-driving culture via the child-seat donation programme, as well as the campaign against drunk driving.

“As ExxonMobil, a company that has a direct relationship with drivers, we are committed to continuing to contribute to this cause with all our available resources, in order to reduce crashes, maintain safer roads and create more safety-aware drivers,” he said.

The campaign, under the auspices of the Cyprus Police, ran throughout the festive period, during which alcohol consumption, and with it, the risk of road accidents, increase rapidly. The Chief of Police welcomed the initiative and thanked stakeholders for their assistance in the important task of road safety.

Focusing on the excuses used by the average driver to justify and rationalise driving while drunk, the campaign confronts the public with the result of irresponsible and thoughtless driving behaviour, demonstrating that none of these excuses hold up should they suffer death or inflict it on others due to drunk driving.

Hoping to foster road awareness, the campaign’s aim is to deter drivers, especially on happy festive days, from driving under the influence of alcohol, and to find ways to have fun, enjoy themselves and have a good time without endangering their lives and those of their fellow drivers.

Looking ahead, ESSO, responsibly and seriously, will continue to contribute to the community through its meaningful Corporate Social Responsibility programmes that take into consideration citizens’ concerns.
