harvard

The University of Cyprus is set to host the 14th annual session of  Harvard University’s Institute for World Literature (IWL) from July 8 to August 1, 2024. The collaborative event will bring together scholars, academics, and literature enthusiasts worldwide for a dynamic four-week programme.

The University of Cyprus will serve as the host for this literary exploration, offering an intellectually stimulating environment. The core of the IWL session features ten two-week seminars led by prominent figures in world literature. These seminars will cover theoretical concepts, historical evolution, and contemporary practices within the field.

Participants will actively engage in roundtables structured around nine broad themes, namely world literature and production, world literature and circulation, world literature and translation, postcolonialism and world literature, world cinema and world literature, premodern literature and world literature, sociology and world literature, and politics, poetics and world literature. This platform provides participants with an opportunity to present their work, share insights, and receive feedback from global scholars. The introduction of the Balzan Colloquium this year adds diversity to the intellectual exchange.

Facilitated by postdoctoral and faculty leaders, weekly meetings will foster a collaborative environment for participants to engage in discussions. This inclusive atmosphere aims to encourage the exploration and development of new projects, including potential future ACLA seminars.

Embracing the global nature of literature, the 14th IWL session at the University of Cyprus serves as a platform for intellectual exchange, bringing together minds from various parts of the world to explore the challenges and nuances within the expansive realm of world literature.
