Carobs had their own festival on Friday, giving visitors the chance to taste all kinds of sweets and watch the dark brown syrup being made first-hand.
The event was organised by Akamas municipality and Peyia football club in the Ayios Georgios church yard in Peyia.
Addressing the event, Peyia deputy mayor Andreas Christodoulou said this was the 16th year the island’s ‘black gold’ was being celebrated.
Apart from tasting the morsels on display, visitors learnt how to bake carob infused sweets, decorate dried gourds for storing wine, distil eye-watering zivania, roll yoghurt and buckwheat for trahanas soup and weave baskets in the traditional pattern.
