An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale hit the sea area between Cyprus and Turkey at 11.09am on Wednesday.
Cyprus’ geological survey department said the quake, felt in Cyprus, occurred in the sea area 108km northwest of Polis Chrysochous, at a depth of around 32km.
The quake shook the southern coast of Turkey and in Cyprus was mostly felt in Nicosia, Paphos, Kyrenia and Limassol. No damage was reported.
The phenomenon is being monitored by the department’s seismological centre.
