Cyprus’ blood bank has called on the public to donate blood before the New Year break, to make sure there are enough reserves for the season.
Head of the Blood Centre Androulla Panayiotou said on Friday that, although there were adequate supplies at the moment, people should continue to give.
Panayiotou told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that every day 300 to 350 bags were needed, which could not be covered by the 220 donated daily.
“To maintain the reserves and for the blood bank to respond to emergencies, such as accidents, it is calling on the public to donate blood,” Panayiotou said.
Donors can visit Engomi blood centre over the weekend from 9.30am till 2pm, Limassol blood centre on Sunday from 9am till 2pm, Paphos blood centre on Sunday from 8am till 2pm and Avdellero old primary school in Larnaca on Sunday from 10am till 12am.
