Police arrested a teen, 16, in connection with an attempted murder in Limassol, where three young men were injured in a knife attack, an announcement said on Sunday.
The 16-year-old boy was arrested on Sunday, after police issued a warrant and received information on his whereabouts.
According to police, the three young men, 19, 18, and 16, were attacked by another three men on Saturday evening at the old port in Limassol.
Police said the attack occurred around 8.25pm, and all three men were taken to hospital to be treated for their wounds.
In statements on Sunday, Limassol police spokesman Lefteris Kyriacou said that the incident began, according to preliminary investigations, during an altercation between one of the victims, who was in the area with his girlfriend, and a group of three persons.
Subsequently, two of his friends arrived there and a scuffle ensued, resulting in the three young men, all of Arab origin, being struck by a knife, while the perpetrators fled the scene.
The 18-year-old was taken by ambulance to a private hospital where it was found that he sustained a deep wound to the chest. After undergoing surgery, he was intubated and kept in the Intensive Care Unit for treatment. His condition, according to the attending physicians, is critical.
The 16-year-old was taken by ambulance to Limassol General Hospital, where it was found that he had a trauma to the chest. He received treatment and was kept for hospitalisation, with his health condition being stable.
The 19-year-old went for medical examinations to a private hospital, where it was found that he had a fracture wound to the head and bruising to the face. He was treated and discharged.
Police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
