A fire erupted in the early hours of Thursday in a cluster of old two-storey houses within the walled city of Nicosia.

The incident, which began at 12:38 am, appears to have affected uninhabited properties, according to a post on X by fire service spokesperson Andreas Kettis.

Five fire engines, including an aerial ladder truck, were dispatched to tackle the blaze. Firefighters utilised water hoses, breathing apparatus and ventilation equipment to bring the flames under control.

One house suffered significant damage, while adjacent properties sustained minor impacts. Authorities thoroughly searched the affected buildings and confirmed that no individuals were found inside, Kettis stated.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
