House speaker Annita Demetriou is paying an official visit to Egypt from Sunday until Wednesday, following an invitation by her Egyptian counterpart Hanafi Jebali, with whom she will sign an updated Memorandum of Cooperation between the two parliaments.

According to a House press release, during her stay in Cairo, Demetriou will have separate meetings with the Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives and the President of the Senate of Egypt Abdel Wahab Abdel Razeq.

It is added that Demetriou and Jebali will co-sign an updated Memorandum of Cooperation between the two parliaments, while a meeting will also take place with Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa.

Also, during her visit, she and the parliamentary delegation will visit institutions of the Greek community in Egypt, where they will have contacts with community representatives.

Demetriou will be accompanied by a parliamentary delegation, comprising MPs George Karoullas, Christos Christofides and Pavlos Mylonas, as well as high-ranking officials of the parliament.

They will return to Cyprus on Wednesday afternoon.
