Improving safety in Larnaca was the focus of a broad meeting held on Friday at the justice ministry, aimed primarily at tackling crime and delinquency.
The initiative is a joint effort by Justice Minister Marios Hartsiotis and Deputy Migration Minister Nicolas Ioannides.
The meeting sought to enhance security, combat antisocial behaviour, and ensure high living standards and economic activity for the city’s residents and visitors.
Participants included representatives from local authorities, as well as officials from the health, welfare, social insurance and asylum services, the police, and the fire department. Attendees exchanged views on the current situation, which they said was impacting both the image and functionality of the city.
They emphasised the need for effective coordination among all relevant services and departments to achieve shared goals.
During the meeting, a special committee was set up with representatives from all involved authorities and agreed to regularly evaluate progress.
The initiative, which aims to upgrade the quality of life in Larnaca, mirrors a similar programme currently underway for the walled city of Nicosia.
