The public will now be able to access six new services through the government’s digital portal, including the issuing and renewal of passports and refugee identity cards for displaced families.
“With the gradual digitization of Civil Registry services, Cypriots both at home and abroad can be served directly, easily, and without unnecessary hassle or delays,” a government statement said.
From now on, people will be able to apply for and renew identity cards and passports for both minors and adults, issue new refugee identity cards, apply for displaced person (refugee) status, and conduct population register searches to locate relatives.
All services will be processed entirely online, except for the issuance and renewal of identity cards and passports, which require applicants to first submit forms electronically and then visit a designated service point to provide biometric data.
Government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis announced that additional features will also be available through the AI-powered digital assistant in the Digital Citizen app.
“As of today, the digital assistant includes 19 new thematic units related to Social Welfare Services, in addition to the existing welfare benefits already included. This allows users to submit queries 24 hours a day,” he said.
A total of 19 new thematic units are now accessible, providing information and services either through text or voice functions.
With the latest expansion of digital services, the government said it aims to reduce the time spent on routine administrative tasks and further its goal of creating a more user-friendly public administration.
The first wave of digital services, launched in June 2024, included the re-issuance of birth and death certificates and the issuance of permanent residence certificates.
The services can be accessed from Cyprus and abroad via citizen-documents.service.gov.cy
