Cyprus has been showcased in a new international video released by the International Social Security Association’s Construction Section (ISSA-C), highlighting examples from the island that promote workplace safety, health and accident prevention through the global Vision Zero strategy.

According to the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (Etek), the video demonstrates how the implementation of the Vision Zero – Safety. Health. Wellbeing. campaign and its Seven Golden Rules can help prevent workplace accidents, improve occupational safety and health, and foster a strong culture of prevention.

The chamber said the production combines examples from Cyprus with case studies from other countries to illustrate how the international strategy is being applied in practice.

Particular emphasis is placed on the Cypriot examples, which highlight the campaign’s first Golden Rule, “Take leadership – demonstrate commitment” as the foundation for creating safer workplaces.

“The central message of the video is that the active commitment of leadership is a fundamental prerequisite for creating safe and healthy workplaces and for achieving the goal of zero workplace accidents,” Etek said.

The video is introduced by Etek president Constantinos Constanti, who stresses the vital role architects and engineers play in ensuring health and safety throughout every stage of a project’s life cycle.

“Architects and engineers play a decisive role in safeguarding safety and health throughout all stages of the life cycle of projects,” Constanti says in the introduction.

He also underlines that responsibility for health and safety extends beyond compliance with technical requirements.

“Responsibility for safety and health goes beyond compliance with technical requirements and is directly linked to protecting human life, health and wellbeing,” Constanti says.

The video received its first official screening during the international conference entitled “From Risk to Resilience: Achieving Vision Zero with AI and Sustainable Construction“, held in Limassol on July 2 and July 3, 2026.

The conference was organised by ISSA-C in cooperation with the International Safety and Health Construction Coordinators Organisation, Etek and the Cyprus Association of Civil Engineers, bringing together international experts to discuss occupational safety, artificial intelligence and sustainable construction.

Etek explained that it participates in the global Vision Zero campaign as an official partner.

The campaign, launched by the International Social Security Association, promotes a comprehensive approach to continuously improving workplace safety, health and wellbeing through the implementation of the Seven Golden Rules.

The chamber also pointed out that the Vision Zero strategy forms part of the priorities set out in the European Strategic Framework on Health and Safety at Work 2023-2027.
