For years, listening to the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra’s New Year concert on January 1 was a family tradition. One that my grandfather started because of his great love for classical music. Since then, an appreciation grew for this genre, especially during the Christmas period. Now that Christmas Day and New Years are behind us, there is just one more public holiday that remains before the holiday season is officially over: Epiphany on January 6, when more music will be on its way.
The Christmas concert by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra which was recorded and streamed online in December will be broadcast on CyBC1 on January 6 at 11.30am. The concert, with a festive programme, is dedicated to all the medical, nursing and support staff as a sign of recognition and appreciation of their valuable contribution in fighting the pandemic.
The concert’s repertoire features an extensive selection of some of the most beloved Christmas songs and orchestral pieces so don’t pack away your festive spirit just yet. The orchestra’s concertmaster Wolfgang Schroader, soprano Aliki Chrysochou and renowned maestro Gerardo Estrada Martinez and the rest of the musicians of CySO invite audiences for one final festive get-together.
“We are really happy about this collaboration with CyBC,” said the orchestra. “It is a significant step and an opportunity to reach an even wider audience. Hence, tune in on CyBC1 on Wednesday, January 6 at 11:30am to enjoy the festive, heart-warming CySO Christmas concert.”
